Decolonization and Indigenous Solidarity: Interview with IPSMO member Greg Macdougall

by Craig Fortier

Decolonization and Indigenous Solidarity: Interview with IPSMO member Greg Macdougall

Greg Macdougall has been active with IPSMO, the Indigenous Peoples Solidarity Movement Ottawa, for the past five years. Prior to that he was already involved in independent media organizing and media-making; he has published an Aboriginal Understanding booklet that includes some of his earlier writings, and you can find a complete collection of his writings and videos on Indigenous issues at this link.

He is interviewed here by Craig Fortier, who is at York University doing an in-depth research project, interviewing Indigenous solidarity activists from across Turtle Island (aka North America). He's doing it as an academic thesis project, but also to bring the knowledge into public use - through round-table discussions he'll lead in the various communities where he did interviews, publishing some video from the interviews, etc and of course the final written analysis.

The interview here is divided into six segments:

  • (Personal) History + Background
  • On Decolonization
  • Ideas + Desires + Principles = Practices
  • Historical, Political, Social, Economic Context
  • On Relationships + Contradictions
  • On Resurgence

The full transcript of the interview is available online here.
